The project

We completed the wall and floor tiling to the men’s and ladies’ changing rooms at All Seasons Leisure Centre in Chorley, working alongside John Turner Construction. A public leisure centre changing room is about as hard as it gets for tiling: wet, barefoot, cleaned daily and never empty for long.

The floors were primed and screeded before any tiling started, with falls created towards all drainage points. Getting the falls right at screed stage is what stops water sitting on the floor, and it is far easier to build into the base than to chase with tiles afterwards.

The walls are Unika Light 600 × 600, a pale stone-effect porcelain that keeps the rooms bright under artificial light. The floors and skirting are EXT Core Grey 600 × 300, laid to the falls already formed in the screed and carried up as a tiled skirting so there is no join for water to find.

Everything was fixed with Kelmore MoreFlex adhesive, grouted in Kelmore Pebble on the walls and Kelmore Natural Grey on the floors, and finished with Beava brushed chrome trims on every edge. All tiles and materials were supplied by our own showroom, Homematas.

The brief

Wall and floor tiling to the men’s and ladies’ changing rooms at a busy public leisure centre: falls to every drain, safe underfoot when wet, and a finish that takes daily cleaning.

What we did

  1. 01 Primed and screeded the changing room floors
  2. 02 Formed falls towards all drainage points before any tiling started
  3. 03 Tiled the walls in Unika Light 600 × 600 porcelain
  4. 04 Laid EXT Core Grey 600 × 300 to the floors and carried it up as a tiled skirting
  5. 05 Fixed walls and floors throughout with Kelmore MoreFlex adhesive
  6. 06 Grouted the walls in Kelmore Pebble and the floors in Kelmore Natural Grey
  7. 07 Finished every edge in Beava brushed chrome trim
  8. 08 Supplied every tile and all the installation materials through our own showroom, Homematas

The result

Clean, modern changing rooms that drain the way they should, stay safe underfoot when wet and stand up to the footfall of a busy leisure centre.
